I am looking into buying a new horse to replace an old one. He/She will be manily used for working cows which will include riding in brush. The breed needs to be gentle enough for kids to ride also.
What about an Quarab? They are part Quater horse and part Arabian. l love Arabian horses!
As most everyone else has said I would also get a Quarter Horse. I am assuming u want a already trained (or at least broken) horse. I would go to a ranch in ur area that breeds horses for this very reason. There r many larger ranches throughout the country that run enough cattle that they breed their own horses. They will be able to find a horse that they know can work the cattle. If u do not know of any ranches close to u try the American Quarter Horse website ( http://aqha.org ) or look even in farm journals in ur area. If u can not find any ranches at all near u it might be worth it to travel a little to get a good horse that u know will work the cattle & wo not spook.

An Appaloosa is great! They have cow sense and are good for kids, sure footed and relaxed, yet can chase a cow!

quarter horse. they are able to get down low and turn sharp. which is what you need when dealing with herding. find one a little older if you want kids to ride it and make sure he/she is quiet. around 13 years old and has been riden a lot is perfect. they are usually very mellow and in good shape, so they will live pretty long.
Quarter Horse
Traditionally, it is the quarter horse, but any horse can be taught to work cattle. These are good with children as well - provided you take the time to teach your children to ride rather than just sit in a saddle and hold onto the horn.
Quarter Horse or a Paint but it depends on how the individually horse acts, you can base attitude on a certain breed. I'd recommended getting a horse that is 5 or 6 experienced in cattle working and has been kid broke. A quarter horse is the best for this because they're bred for that kind of stuff.

Quarter Horse! Usually if from the right stock it seems to be bred into them. Thoroughbred is and some others are too high strung. My paint is scared to death of cows, but our quarter horse gelding loves to chase them.
